Nyagatare; children living in abusive families are traumatized
Children living in families where one of the parents is abused are traumatized, resulting in other social consequences; this is according to parents in Nyagatare district.
Delphine Nyirangwabije is a mother from Nyagatare sector, who says that when they argue with her husband, he then don’t give them money and the children starve to death; whenever she tries to tell him about the hungry children he then beat her, in front the children, and sometimes they cry too.
Anet Gahongayire is also a mother in Nyagatare sector, who says that when there is a conflict in the family, when one parent is being abused by another, sometimes the children leave the house and run away; which sometimes results in pregnancies at a young age, or heavy labor for children.
The National Council of Women also has that information
“Some of the most common consequences for children when their families are in conflict and violence, including finding children to be on the streets, girls getting pregnant prematurely, where a child leaves home to find work and face other problems, and ‘The impact on the child’s education is that he can’t study well because of the constant violence at home. ” This was stated by the Deputy Chairperson of the National Council of Women in Nyagatare District, Ms. Egidia Mutegwaraba .
local authorities give some advice
On the issue of ongoing conflicts in some households in Nyagatare district, which also affects children, especially in these days of covid-19, the local administration finds that this is not the right thing to do because this period should have been attributed to taking care of the problems of the family and solve them.
Ms. Juliette Murekatete , The vice Mayor in charge of social affaire in Nyagatare district said: “It’s not comprehensible how people have found this opportunity to talk to their families and wasted it.”
The vice Mayor in charge of social affaires continues to advise that parents in these situations should approach their children and talk to them, listen to them and solve their problems, rather than always pretending that they have no time.
