North Korean leader Kim Jong-un recently inaugurated a new set of apartment blocks in Pyongyang, marking a significant milestone in the city’s ongoing expansion under a five-year construction plan initiated in 2021.

Officials have described this as the largest building initiative the country has witnessed in years.

The ceremony, held on Tuesday in the newly developed Hwasong district, coincided with the “Day of the Sun,” a national holiday celebrating the birth anniversary of Kim’s late grandfather and North Korea’s founder, Kim Il-sung.

Kim was accompanied by his daughter, Kim Ju-Ae, during the event, which was widely covered by state media.

This latest development follows a groundbreaking ceremony led by Kim in February in the same area. Reflecting on the progress, Kim stated that the 10,000-household construction project for this year brings the ambitious plan to build 50,000 homes in Pyongyang closer to completion a goal set during the Party Congress.

North Korean leader expressed his commitment to improving living standards, emphasizing the importance of this initiative for the people of North Korea.
