In honor of Kwibuka 31, members of the KOICA Rwanda Alumni Association (KORAA), alongside leaders and staff from KOICA Rwanda, visited the Kiziguro Genocide Memorial on April 26th, 2025, to pay tribute to the victims of the Genocide Against the Tutsi and support the welfare of survivors in Gatsibo District.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The delegation was warmly received by local leaders, including the Vice President of IBUKA Gatsibo, Mr. Jean Marie Vianney Jabo, who provided insights into the tragic history of the genocide in Kiziguro. The Executive Secretary of Kiziguro Sector welcomed the attendees, and the Vice Mayor of Gatsibo District in charge of social affairs expressed gratitude for the meaningful engagement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the visit, the Vice President of KORAA, Ms. Francine Andrew SARO highlighted the organization’s mission and explained the significance of the event as part of their ongoing community outreach efforts. She emphasized KORAA\u2019s commitment to giving back to Rwandan communities in recognition of the support they have received from the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

KOICA Rwanda\u2019s Country Director, Ms. Kim Jin-hwa, expressed deep solidarity with Rwandan genocide survivors, recalling South Korea\u2019s own historical experiences with conflict and atrocities. She reaffirmed KOICA\u2019s dedication to strengthening Rwanda\u2019s development through continued collaboration and support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Vice Mayor of Gatsibo District in charge of social affairs, Ms. Marcelline Mukamana, extended appreciation to KORAA and KOICA Rwanda for their commitment to learning about Kiziguro\u2019s tragic history and for their generous donation, which aligns with the Kwibuka 31 theme: “Remember, Unite, Renew.”<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of this community outreach initiative, KORAA, in partnership with KOICA Rwanda, donated approximately 5,815,000 RWF<\/strong>, including 35 livestock, 175 health insurance packages, and 20 school kits<\/strong>, to support genocide survivors in Gatsibo District.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
