The KOICA Rwanda Alumni Association (KORAA) collaborated with Kamonyi District for a community work (Umuganda) at the Kamonyi Genocide Memorial. The event was part of preparations for the 31st commemoration of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, with participants cleaning the memorial site.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In partnership with Remera Rukoma Hospital, KORAA also facilitated a health screening session for over 250 community members. The free screening covered non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, mental health conditions, and hypertension. Residents expressed their gratitude for the initiative, emphasizing the importance of early diagnosis and treatment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kamonyi District Mayor, Dr. Sylvere Nahayo, praised the collective efforts in preserving the memorial site and preparing for the upcoming remembrance period. He also recognized KOICA\u2019s valuable partnership in various projects, particularly in education and ICT, which have provided advanced learning opportunities for Rwandans. Additionally, he commended the alumni for their dedication to giving back to society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Representing KORAA, Vice President Francine Andrew Saro thanked Kamonyi District for hosting the association. We remain committed to supporting impactful initiatives that foster sustainable development,\u201d he stated, while also thanking Kamonyi District and Remera Rukoma Hospital for their cooperation in making the event a success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Uwonkunda conveyed the message from KOICA’s Country Director to the leadership and community of Kamonyi, emphasizing the ongoing partnership across various sectors. Together with KORAA members, Uwonkunda presented to the Mayor and the Vice Mayor in charge of Social Affairs the list of gifts prepared for today’s event, including medical equipment and cleaning tools used during the community work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Honorable Senator Alexis Mugisha, the guest of honor, delivered a thought-provoking speech emphasizing the strength found in unity. Since its establishment in Rwanda in 2011, KOICA has invested approximately USD 250 million in various development projects, including those in education, agriculture, and ICT.
